Spooky is a lot like me.  He’s this little lost child and he really only can communicate with drawings.
This is another one from the sketchbook, which has turned out to be a very nice thing to have around.

Another sketchbook drawing based off of a much earlier concept that I drew on an artist trading car.

I took my sketchbook to work today and drew a few things, and I think they turned out pretty good.

This…might require a little explanation.  Recently a Tumblr user named Arinko drew the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure character Kars in a sexy pose inspired by Nicki Minaj’s pose from the Anaconda single.  You can see it here:

http://arinky-dink.tumblr.com/post/93757827358/has-anyone-else-drawn-kars-in-the-nicki-minaj-pose

And, it was pretty funny and cute.  But I remember looking at it and wishing that somebody would draw the same character in the same pose, but in a more realistic style.  Not for any particular reason, really, other than that I thought it would be cool and totally fitting with how Kars is portrayed in both the JoJo anime and the manga.

So, some time went by and I finally decided that I was going to be the one to do the more realistic Kars/Minaj pose.  And I think it came out pretty good.

So now you are probably looking at this fan art and thinking, “Hrm, I should probably be watching this JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” or, you are looking at this and thinking, “Christ, I am never watching that and I am unfollowing this Tumblr.”  But really, deep down, I think we all know you want to go watch it.

So, I don’t know how often this happens on Tumblr, but on Instagram often people will do trades.  So a girl that I know makes charms on there using resin, which are really cute and colorful, which she usually sells for between $10 and $15.  And she decided to do a trade with somebody else on there who draws fan art, where she would send them some charms in the mail (about $30 worth) and they would draw her a sketch of her favorite JoJo character.
Long story short, she sends the charms, and her understanding is that she’ll be getting a sketch on paper in return.  What she ends up getting is a digital sketch which looked like it was done in about 5 minutes, was way below the quality of most of this other person’s work, and looked nothing like the character she asked for.  Understandably, she was really upset.
So, I ended up doing the sketch she had requested because I didn’t want her to cry.

A very quick sketch I did of my dogs.

Oh god, I looked at my activity level on here and it’s starts off on a fairly good plateau and then it’s just a heartbreaking decline.  I guess that’s a lot like my life.

So my I’ve been busy with work and then I got really sick so I haven’t been drawing much.  And I was kind of depressed.  And then somebody gave me a Sharpie pen and the following dialogue ensued:

"What’s this?"

"A Sharpie pen."

"Is this going to repair the ruins of my life?"

"Well…no, it’s a pen."

"Oh."

"I thought you could, you know, draw with it."

So, I wasn’t really any happier.  But I did draw with it.

Some short descriptions:

1.  This was the very first thing I drew with my Sharpie.  It came out better than I thought it would, which was good because I did not need that blow to my ego at that particular moment.

2.  Copics on a mailing label, proving, I suppose, that anything can be art if you don’t really care what you’re drawing on.

3.  Is that hesitation?  This came out okay for something I freehanded without too many construction lines.

4.  I like how this mask came out.  This is more how I would like them to look, just a little creepy.

5.  That physique is very inspired by how Hirohiko Araki draws his male figures in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.  I like his poses because they’re very  fluid and feminine but the models are beautiful muscular men, and it works.

6.  His chest is too small.

7.  Portrait of the artist as a bitter old man.

Somebody asked me to draw something cute so I drew a character that most of you haven’t seen yet: Victory Skyfire.  Victory is an angel.  She’s super cute.  She’s wearing lingerie for her work clothes because she has no idea what people wear for work, she just thinks it’s pretty.

I’ve tried so many times to draw this and it never quite comes out right, and I’m not sure if it came out right this time, but i like how it looks at least.

I think with these two characters, Spooky the doll and Tehra, that there is this isolation that they’ve learned to live with, and it still bothers them but it doesn’t hurt so bad anymore.  And then there are these moments where that loneliness is beautiful, because you can do things and experience things in a way that you can’t when you are with other people.  And I guess that’s what this is about.

Also fireflies.
